At least one of the founders, Mr. Simmons, had relevant experience in the oil industry, having been a traveling salesman for Vacuum Oil (later to become Mobil Oil) for a number of years.

William Simmons, elected president of Viscosity Oil in 1906, was elected the first president of the Central Manufacturing District Club and was "always a consistent promoter of district betterments."

After serving Viscosity for 29 years, William D. Simmons, fondly referred to by his associates as "Pop" died.
