    A cable outage affected about 150 customers Thursday evening in the Roosevelt Avenue and Strabane Trail area in southwestern Sioux Falls, said Tom Simmons, a spokesman with Midcontinent Communications.

    The outage was caused by a problem with the power supply, Simmons said.

    A problem with a master switch caused intermittent service, said Tom Simmons, senior vice president of public policy.

    Senior design engineers repaired a major component inside the switch, he said.The problem was reported at 3:41 p.m., and service was restored by 9:05 p.m.

    MidContinent subscribers will not need to purchase converter boxes and will not face additional fees after the transition, according to Tom Simmons, MidContinent's senior vice president of public policy.

    Recent news reports have indicated that some cable companies may begin charging subscribers who receive analog cable service an extra fee for the needed converter boxes.

    Simmons said even older nondigital TV sets that are connected to MidContinent cable will work after the transition.
