"If we want to be a one-stop shop for our customers, tennis balls are an important piece of the overall brand," said Jay Simmons, the company's senior category director, tennis balls and recreational racquets. Simmons, who has spent 16 years in the tennis business, was previously with Head/Penn Racquet Sports before being hired away by Prince earlier this year to help lead its new tennis ball launch. Prince has spent the past year to 18 months evaluating different prototypes. "We've been testing balls like crazy, looking for the right combination of feel, durability and consistency," Simmons said.

"We're going to take a grass-roots approach and use the Prince tennis academies nationwide to help get the balls out in the market," Simmons said.
