- Simmons moved to Macon with her husband, Bill, in 1938 and has been involved with nearly every arts organization in the city, including the Middle Georgia Historical Society, the Macon Arts Alliance, the Junior League of Macon, the Museum of Arts and Sciences, Theatre Macon, Macon Little Theater, the Hay House, Friends of the Cannonball House, the Community Concert Association and the Macon Symphony, among others.She was cookie chairwoman for the Girl Scouts and currently serves on the board of both the Children's Museum and Tubman African American Museum.

Thursday's luncheon is scheduled for noon at Mercer University Presidential Dining Room.

Honorary Chairs, Paula Adams, Zelma Redding and Betty Sweet Simmons, along with Chair, Win Roshell of After Five, headed a committee of community leaders who made this event the biggest in its history.
