    Edward Sickles, III Teacher

    Edward Sickles, III teaches special education for emotionally involved students aged 14-21 at the Wordsworth Academy in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. He has been a special education teacher for 25 years in suburban Philadelphia.

    Ed uses CNN Student News, TNT Learning and TBS specials in study skills and reading classes as well as throughout his social studies and science curriculum. He infuses this in many of the activites of a self-contained classroom. This is in order to help his students to understand the world around them and to become better informed of developments in the world. He presents frequently on how to use cable in the classroom as an effective teaching tool in the educational setting at state and national conferences as well as local teachers meetings and in-services. Ed has studied in Scandinavia and China and served on the United Nations Committee for Education in Developing Nations Conference in Seoul, Korea as well as many local educational boards. He has spoken on infusion of technologies in education for the exceptional child and has written and prepared many in-service workshops on infusion of technologies for all students. Ed has been guest lecturer at many national and international conferences on educational disabilities and technologies and enjoys his involvement with teaching teachers how to motivate today's students. In addition, Ed has received many awards, including the Outstanding Educator in Pennsylvania, and national awards including the Discover Channel Award for outstanding utilization of cable program and technologies in the classroom. He has consulted for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and served on many state and national committees, which include both committees on technology and use of the Newspaper in Education.

    Ed holds a B.S. in Elementary Education and Special Education (Mental Retardation/ Emotional Disturbance) from Millersville University in Millersville, Pennsylvania and a M.Ed. from Temple University in Psychology of Reading (Reading Specialist) and Special Education (Learning Disabilities) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his home state.
