Mr. Sica and Dr. Conley discussed how Canisius College has defined growth, rebranding, and an aggressive program of community revitalization to achieve its goals.

"This is not unique to Buffalo schools," said Frank Sica, a vice president at Cannon Design, one of the architecture firms working on the school construction project."We're seeing it everywhere."

Sica, the lead architect on the project, acknowledges the financial challenges at the new Performing Arts are greater because of the size and scope of the project.He also knows school officials view it as a project that could boost enrollment by luring students from private and suburban schools.

"It is the centerpiece of phase two," Sica said.

For that reason, Sica has been vigilant in fighting off cost-cutting efforts that might hinder the school's success.Chief among them, the school's focal point -- a multipurpose auditorium with the latest in performance amenities.

"We stood by the auditorium as our Alamo," Sica said.

Frank Sica, project architect, presented plans to the Board & answered membersí questions.

Various members expressed concerns regarding the placement of two (2) transformer enclosures in front of the proposed building.Mr. Sica presented elevations showing that the enclosures & the building will be screened by ìAbbotswood Potentillaî, ìSpring Grove Western Arborvitaeî & ìGoldilocks Forsythiaî.

Board members questioned why the transformers could not be relocated to the rear of the proposed structure.Mr. Sica stated that Niagara Mohawk said this could not be done.
