A native of Los Angeles, Joel B. Shulman, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a product of Van Nuys High School where he was #1 in his 1959 graduating class of nearly 800 students.He received his B.A. in 1963 from Stanford University as Phi Beta Kappa and was captain of the baseball team.He journeyed east to the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine receiving his M.D. in 1967 and then served an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Florida.After two years on the U.S. Army Medical Corps (one year at Fort Polk, LA one in Vietnam), Dr. Shulman began his four year residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the UCLA Medical Center and became board certified in 1974.After completing his residency he was invited to join Drs.Victor Goodhill, Seymour Brockman, and Irwin Harris at the Otosurgical Group where he has practiced ever since with a teaching appointment in the UCLA Division of Head and Neck Surgery.Dr. Shulman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and of the American College of Surgeons.

Joel Bruce Shulman, ,63 (biological sciences), of Encino, Calif., July 29, from a hematological disorder.A member of Alpha Tau Omega, he was captain of the baseball team and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.After receiving his MD from the John Hopkins School of Medicine, he served two years in the Army Medical Corps.Completing a residency in otolaryngology at UCLA Medical Center, he practiced head and neck surgery for more than 30 years in Los Angeles.
