I, Alafrate from Canada writes: Between the article where Shoalts gets the run-around from a mall cop on a golf cart to Nelson Sklabania's brush-off and the comments on this thread, I'm enjoying this a lot more than I have enjoyed the actual NHL for years.

Well, being a professional journalist, I'm sure Mr. Shoalts has done his homework... but so far I see a connection between Gagliardi and Skalbania (maybe), and perhaps one to Hamilton's mayor... but no connection at all between the Thrashers ownership and either party...
    ...
Mr. Shoalts, don't you need to own a team before you can move it?

Dave Shoalts, a writer for the Toronto Globe and Mail, gave his opinion on the Winter Classic on New Years in Buffalo, New York, and other outdoor games.

"The original premise of these games - going back to hockey's outdoor roots - was dubious at best. How playing in a football stadium in front of 70,000 fans is going back to the days of pickup hockey on a pond is beyond me," he writes.

You're right, Mr. Shoalts.New plan - my uncle and I just installed an outdoor rink over his tennis courts.

    According to Mr. Shoalts:

Mr. Shoalts ends his rant by remarking, "This sort of thing should be above Original Six franchises like the Wings and the Leafs."

In the past ten years of hockey, only one Original Six team has won the cup.
    ...
So pardon us, Mr. Shoalts, for entering the age of enlightenment and expanding the league to 30 teams.

The twist this time is the Globe and Mail's David Shoalts got a couple of undisclosed NHL governors to muse on the subject.

Mr. Shoalts, if we're being honest here, your job is to write articles that get people reading papers.

Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Mr. Shoalts gets it wrong again.
    ...
Neil No more last name from Canada writes: Dave The Rave - not sure how I'm to tar and feather the owners ... sure in theory it sounds great, but in practice???
    ...
Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Neil NMLM--the tarring and feathering take place at center ice before the puck is dropped at the ACC.
    ...
wilhelm of the hammer from Hamilton, Canada writes: your article Mr Shoalts is very interesting but in all honesty what set of 10 games would have the Leafs feeling better about themselves? i don't think they can play Atlanta, Los Angeles and Florida 3 times each and then play whomever to start the season. even if they could play that opening set i'm not sure this team could come out of that set with a winning record. the leafs are what they are and i think that we won't see the playoffs around here ( excluding Buffalo of course until 2011) ( also excluding Jim Basille buying a team and moving it here) i saw the leafs dominate the 60's and i'm hoping that they can win another cup in my lifetime although i do think to odds are long on that one
    ...
Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Neil, there may be a practical solution.
