Alan Shingler

Alan is head of sustainability at Sheppard Robson and responsible for the award winning 'Lighthouse', the UK's first net zero carbon home.
He leads the research and development of Sheppard Robson's sustainability programme, reviewing all projects to provide a holistic approach to sustainability as part of the design process.
He is a member of the RIBA Sustainable Futures group & the British Property Federation Sustainability Committee where he advises on sustainability best practice.
He regularly conducts industry seminars and contributes to several industry magazines on issues surrounding sustainability.
He has been instrumental in the design and delivery on a variety of projects including office headquarters for Arup and Chase Fleming in the City of London, high density housing and mixed use developments in Islington, Tower Hamlets, Westminster, Barking and Madrid.
He led Sheppard Robson's winning designs for the Design for Manufacture Competition and was instrumental in winning Sheppard Robson the Sustainable Designer of the Year 2005/06 award and BCE Environmental Leadership Award 2007.
He received his degree and diploma in architecture from Leicester Polytechnic and studied design for extreme environments at the University of Houston, SICSA.
He registered as an architect in 1995, joining Sheppard Robson in January 1998 and was made partner in 2006.
Alan also tutors periodically at the Bartlett, University College London and London Metropolitan University & actively contributes to key sustainability initiatives with the BCO & Constructing Excellence.
