Jim Shethar of the Cortez Police Department said."It's amazing, with all the warnings, people still continue to drink and drive on this night."
On average, the CPD reports approximately two or three DUIs for Jan. 1.
"My suggestion is for people to arrange for a designated driver, because we will be out there looking for violators," Shethar said."It's a given that people should use their head and think before getting behind the wheel.
"Getting a DUI is financially not worth it, there's court costs, fines, lawyer fees, additional insurance rates, community service and possible jail time.A DUI violation is definitely a lifestyle change for the worse."
Additional DUI patrols will also be out in force for the Colorado State Highway Patrol.

The Saturday check totaled approximately 100 vehicles stopped, according to Shethar. There were no arrests made, and the saturation patrol turned up nothing.
"This was a good thing for Montezuma County motorists," Shether said."We also had some positive feedback from motorists who said they were glad to see us doing DUI checks, and that kind of surprised us."
A check point and safety inspection held Thursday was conducted by the Colorado State Highway Patrol.
