But one commission member, John Shenefield, the former chairman and current Washington, D.C.-based partner at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, said repeal of the exemptions should not be delayed.
Shenefield said that when he was in charge of antitrust enforcement in the Carter administration, a similar commission was formed to discuss McCarran-Ferguson.Shenefield said he felt the current commission missed an opportunity to present more specific ideas about what should or should not be exempt.
"I think it begs for comprehensive review," Shenefield said."There was an analytical framework, but we never got down to deciding if we should repeal X and keep Y."
He said Congress should create another commission to look at all other industry antitrust exemptions.
