Bio: Dr. Herman Shen received his Ph.D. University of Michigan in 1989.He is a recipient of the Air Force Research Initiation Award (1991), ALCOA Science Foundation Award (1994), and OSU College of Engineering Lumley Research Award (2001).Dr. Herman Shen has published more than 70 journal papers, book chapters, and technical reports.Recently, his work has focused on real-time damage identification and passive control, smart materials, probability-based life prediction/design, and structural optimization.His research contributions in the development of reliability and life predicting methodologies for aircraft structures have already been recognized by the aerospace community and acknowledged by the Industry Outlook Section of Aviation Week & Space Technology.Dr. Shen is a Fellow of ASME.
