The Girl Scouts, volunteers and the community raised more than $250,000, said Cindy Shelton, executive director of the Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin. With the Abell-Hanger Foundation's $100,000 match, the total grew to more than $350,000, she added.
Shelton said approximately 375 individual donors, foundations and charitable trusts contributed to the Girl Scouts campaign held May 8 to Aug. 31, according to Abell-Hanger Foundation authorities.
"We're just so grateful to the Abell-Hanger Foundation for their generous support and also to the dedicated volunteers who helped us raise this money within the communities that we serve so that we can go about our business of providing programs for girls, which really is our passion and our true mission," Shelton said.
Established in 1947, the organization serves approximately 4,100 girls between ages five to 17 years old, Shelton said.Funds raised for this campaign were operational funds, Shelton said. The Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin's annual budget is $1.3 million, she said.
The organization, which serves 18 counties, has great support through grants for programing provided by United Ways, Shelton added.
