Knowing Principal Richards as my surrogate uncle since childhood was one thing, but beyond that Shelton-Richards friendship, I felt like the luckiest guy on earth to get to work alongside J. R. as student body president at Santa Barbara High.

I couldn't have asked for a better person.There was no one who believed in me more, or who could have had a larger heart for his students.

J. R. stood by me when things went wrong, fought on my behalf against all odds, had olive and gold tradition in his blood, and was always striving for constant improvement for the Dons.
