   NORWALK -- A special prosecutor was appointed to determine whether charges should be filed against Norwalk attorney Greg Shell in connection with a road rage incident, according to Norwalk City Prosecutor Jim Conway.

   The prosecutor's office works with Shell frequently which posed a conflict of interest for the office, said Conway.

   "I think it's fair to do whatever the law director feels is proper," said Shell about the appointment of Palmer.

   Palmer and Shell have dealt with each other on a number of cases in the past and both acted as prosecutor for the Village of Monroeville within the last few years.

   Shell worked at the Huron County Prosecutor's Office until approximately 1997, when he resigned. He now practices law as a defense attorney at an office at 111 Benedict Ave.

   The village of Monroeville will hire former Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Greg Shell to serve as its law director on an interim basis. He'll start this week.
   
   Monroeville Village Council Tuesday night authorized police Chief Mike White to extend the offer to Shell, who will make $95 per hour.

   Council members voted unanimously to authorize hiring Shell.
