Ray graduated from Columbus East High School in 1974. He spent three years in the Marine Corps and completed a Business Certificate from IUPUC in 1984. Ray became interested in surveying in 1993. He started employment with the Bartholomew County Surveyors Office in July 1998 as a Field Crew Member. In 1999 he became the LIS-GIS Technician and in 2000 he became the Head of the Field Surveys Division. Ray is active with several caving organizations and is currently a member of the Indiana Cave Survey.
