Christiane Sheid Joins Epicyte as Chief Financial Officer
Former Lehman/Warburg Investment Banker and Ligand Finance Executive

Sheid will be pivotal in developing and executing a long-term strategy to optimize the value of Epicyte and in funding the clinical programs for the Company's lead compounds and the aggressive build out of its monoclonal antibody pipeline to treat infectious and inflammatory diseases.In addition to equity financing, Sheid will assist Epicyte in structuring strategic licensing and partnerships that leverage Epicyte's PlantibodiesTM technology to support its product portfolio.She will have primary responsibility for overseeing Epicyte's finance, accounting, budgeting, and treasury functions, and also lead Epicyte's investor relations effort.

Sheid formerly was vice president of finance, investor relations and corporate communications, and treasurer at Ligand Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: LGND) in San Diego.She managed numerous strategic financial transactions for Ligand, including Ligand's acquisition of Seragen to acquire additional late-stage product and the spin-off of X-Ceptor Therapeutics to finance early stage nuclear receptor technology.Sheid also expanded Ligand's relationships with sell-side equity research analysts and institutional investors and organized the first Ligand-sponsored analyst and investor conference in New York.Sheid has 17 years of experience in New York as an investment banker.As a senior banker in the health care investment banking groups of Lehman Brothers and SBC Warburg Dillon Read (a predecessor of UBS Warburg), Sheid led a wide variety of domestic and international strategic and financing transactions for biotechnology and large pharmaceutical companies.Sheid's clients included Aventis, The Dow Chemical Company, Marion Merrell Dow, Dow Corning, and Eli Lilly, as well as biotechnology companies Alteon, Neurex, and Isis Pharmaceuticals.

Prior to working primarily with health care companies, Sheid focused on the financing needs of Fortune 500 companies, including Dow Chemical and its affiliates, and worked as an investment banker at Bear, Stearns and Company and Warburg Paribas Becker/A.G. Becker Paribas.
Sheid earned an M.B.A. in Finance/Accounting/International Business at The Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA and a B.A. in Economics from UCLA.
