"We have a lot of guests purchasing items for Thanksgiving and also we have a lot of guests who want to beat the holiday rush, they are purchasing items for Christmas and other holidays they want to celebrate," Scott Sheffield, Target store team leader, said.

"We're not doing anything earlier than usual," said Scott Sheffield, manager at Target.

"We've expanded our electronics line this year," Sheffield said.

"It's been good for us," Scott Sheffield, general manager of Florence's Target store, said."We've had a real successful back-to-school season."

He said the store's biggest sales had been of clothing and standard school supplies including pens and pencils, folders, and markers.

"There's definitely been an increase in traffic," Scott Sheffield, the Florence Target Store Team Leader, said."And a lot of guests are excited about that 5 percent they're saving on the sales tax."There were several hundred people waiting to get into the Target store on David McLeod Boulevard on Friday morning."The day has gone fantastic.We've had so much fun interacting with our guests," Sheffield said."We had a lot of guests out in front of our store.They were pumped up.They were excited to shop our store."Sheffield said sales were going well Friday, and he said he hoped they continue during the holiday shopping season."We expect a great season.We're very excited.We've had a great year all year.Our guests are excited about coming to shop our stores."So what are some of the hottest gifts this season?"The two hottest areas are electronics and toys , iPods, digital cameras, digital camcorders, video game systems, TVs, like high-definition televisions," Sheffield said."All those areas have been very popular for us.

In fact, Target manager Scott Sheffield says the Nobles aren't alone in that thinking.

"Nowadays (customers) are more savvy to what is tax-free and what isn't," said Sheffield."That way they can plan their shopping accordingly."

But retailers say it all adds up to late summer big business.

"It's comparable to a Thanksgiving or Christmas because of all the sales and parents getting ready for back to school," said Sheffield.

Target manager Scott Sheffield said the pharmacy should open by May.

"To us it makes our year, it's very important to us that's why we take it seriously as we do, we'll bring on more team members to help our guests," says Scott Sheffield, manager at Target.

At Target the holiday hiring process began just after Halloween, and as many as 70 additional employees are being added to the staff to help with the holiday rush.

"Right now we're about 95% complete in terms of holiday staffing and we'll finish the rest of it this week," says Sheffield.

It's the same for other places including Limited Too, a clothing store.

Most of our team members work a nine to five Monday through Friday, then they work nights and weekends to earn extra money for the holidays," says Sheffield.

"We still have a lot of guests that come in right now, because they don't want to deal with the crowds," said Scott Sheffield, Target manager.

Stores are already restocking popular school items.In some cases, they've sold out, but say they'll be ready for this weekend, because it's going be packed with shoppers looking to save some dough.

"If you're shopping for a lot of students, the savings add up and that's why we have a lot of items for that one weekend," Sheffield said.
