Jerry Sheffield, a CSEA Labor Relations Representative in the River Delta Field Office is running for a seat on the Chowchilla High School Board.

The last offer from the district, said Jerry Sheffield, the CSEA chapter's labor relations representative, was a one-year contract that included a 2 percent increase - retroactive to Jan. 1 - and a $1,000 increase in benefits, raising the cap to $7,300.

Sheffield said the offer was turned down because it is not equal to the certificated, management and classified management contracts, which include an $8,300 benefits cap.

"It's been brutal," said Sheffield."With the budget, I can't even imagine how things will go next year.We're really going to have to work as a consolidated group to deal with the crunch on numbers."
