Working with SUNY-Cortland Professor Kevin Sheets and Mary Ann Kane from the Historical Society students spent the Spring semester researching the history of more than a dozen sites in downtown Cortland.

Kevin B. Sheets, a history professor at SUNY-Cortland, says the Dowd show is the first opportunity he's had to exhibit his work since he moved to Cortland a couple of years ago.He paints at night or on weekends during the academic year and relishes the summer when he's on hiatus from teaching and has more time to paint.

Sheets has two stunning oil paintings in the exhibition - "Lydia's Feast" and "Iron Skillet No. 3," both painted this year.They are starkly real still lifes rendered in a subdued color palette with restraint and sensitivity.

Kevin Sheets, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of American History, SUNY Cortland, is the principal investigator, whose primary role is research design and implementation of an online course on Skills and Methods of the Historian.
