    But Don Sheets, the owner of a cafe within the bookstore, said the owners of the building have agreed to allow him to operate it as an expanded cafe and sandwich shop.

    The store will continue to sell books, though the shelves will be moved to the back, he said.

    A spokesman for the building's managers, Eagle Equity, could not be reached for comment.

    Mr. Sheets said he was still awaiting a final copy of the lease; he declined to say how long it would run.

    Even if he doesn't get the document by Tuesday, when the old lease expires, he will continue to operate the cafe at Cedar Springs Road and Throckmorton Street.

    "I'll be there until [Dallas County Sheriff] Lupe Valdez throws me out on the street," he said."Until then, I'm staying."
