Joe Shapira was born in 1953 in Tel Aviv, Israel.In 1972 Joe graduated Ort Yad Singlaovsky, a renowned technology-institute/high school in Tel Aviv and joined the Israeli Air Force. He served at the Air Force during the 1973 (Yom Kippur) War and was discharge in 1975.In 1979 Joe immigrated to the United States and settled in Los Angeles, California.Since 1979 Mr. Shapira founded a number of successful companies in the fields of printing, real estate, Videocassette manufacturing, post production and the internet. In 1981 Joe founded Sha-Rub investment Company to exploit the rapid appreciation of real estate on the West Coast. Sha-Rub Investment Company invested in and developed real properties.In 1988 Joe founded Matrix Video Duplication Corporation to exploit the mergence of video cassettes and VCR’s. Matrix was later acquired by an Israel company and went public on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.  In 1996 Mr. Shapira discovered the Internet and realized that it would provide phenomenal business opportunities. To exploit this new frontier, Joe founded Spark Networks™ plc (Previously named MatchNet™ plc) to develop and market online personals sites on the Internet and launched JDate.com™, the first of more than twenty personals websites, in February of 1997. As Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Spark Networks™ Mr. Shapira deployed close to $15 million that he raised in three private placements during the years 1999 and 2000 and €25 million that he raised in 2000 in an initial public offering (IPO) on the Neuer Markt stock exchange in Frankfurt, Germany, to build one of the world’s leading online personals companies. Through the year 2004 Mr. Shapira grew Spark Networks™ organically and via more than ten acquisitions, to more than $65 million in revenues and 175 employees, with operations in the United States, England and Israel. Among the Spark Networks™ websites are AmericanSingles.com™ - a major online personals brand in the US, JDate.com™ - the dominant personals website for Jewish singles around the world and Relationships.com - a leading personals website for Christians.   Towards the end of 2004 Joe hired professional management to lead Spark Networks™ and became the Executive Chairman of the Board. During 2005 worked with the new management to ease their transition and assist in the listing of Spark Networks™ for trading on the American Stock Exchange (AMEX). Mr. Shapira resigned from his executive position on December 31, 2000. He continues to be a major shareholder of Spark Networks™ and the Chairman of its Board of Directors.  In 2003 Joe and his wife, Nickie Shapira, formed JNS Capital LLC. Since then, under their management, JNS Capital invested in various companies and ventures in the fields of Internet, media, entertainment, real estate and agriculture. Additionally, together with other partners, Joe and his wife Nickie Shapira founded three new companies - MobileRiot™ Inc. that licenses, produces and broadcasts hip-hop content on mobile phones; CineMusicCafé, a music publishing company that specializes in music for movies, television shows and advertising commercials; and Shapira Reality LLC, a real estate investment and development company.In 2006 Mr. Shapira will focus his efforts in the exploitation of new opportunities for JNS Capital and Shapira Realty LLC, will assist in the development of the other ventures.
