Consultant in genito-urinary medicine (GUM) Dr Ariyaratne De Silva and consultant dermatologist Dr Manu Shah have recently had their book, 'The Male Genitalia', published by Radcliffe Publishing Ltd and the pair also received a commendation for their idea for the book as part of the publisher's writing competition.

Dermatology and genito-urinary medicine are commonly practised as separate specialties within hospitals in the UK but Dr Shah and Dr De Silva have broken this mould by working collaboratively across the two specialties.

Dr Shah said: "I feel an important role of a hospital consultant is to work with and support our primary care colleagues.

Dr M. Shah, Consultant Dermatologist at Dewsbury and District Hospital, qualified in Birmingham in 1988.After training in general, cancer and genito-urinary medicine, he worked in dermatology in Sheffield for five years.He gained an MD in 2000 for a thesis on chromate allergy and has over 30 publications.

His special interests are in contact dermatitis and skin cancer but sees all dermatology referrals in all age groups.

Dr Manu Shah, consultant dermatologist at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin problem, affecting about 2% of the UK population.
