SYRACUSE, NY - Mansukh J. Shah, CLU, ChFC, a native of Bombay, India, and resident of Syracuse, has won Equitable's 1999 Northeast Honor Associate award for his service to the industry, community, company and family.Shah and his family were honored for the award at Equitable's Old Guard meeting in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 13, 1999.
Active in his community, Shah consistently donates his time to local organizations.He is a founding member and past treasurer of the India Community Religious and Cultural Center in Syracuse.He volunteers at local shelters and at the Francis House, a home for the terminally ill.
Shah also is a recognized financial professional.He recently spoke to a group of business professionals at the "Forum for Excellence" in Rajkot, India, and has published articles on financial planning in national publications.He also has been part of a regular newspaper column in Upstate New York, answering reader's financial questions.
"It's my job to help other people understand and master the intricacies of financial planning and preparedness," Shah said."I am a strong believer in the importance of educating my clients on what's best for them.It helps me establish and maintain closer relationships."
Educating himself also has been a key to Shah's success."I had various clients over the years with sizable assets.I saw estate tax problems coming for some of them, so I educated myself about the best solutions and worked with their lawyers and other advisors to help them solve their problems," Shah said.A specialist in estate planning, Shah has a business-oriented client base spread over 15 states.
"Mansukh has an extraordinary level of motivation and is truly a 'student' of his profession," said Fred Folco, Equitable's general manager for the Northeast region.

After moving to the U.S. in 1976, Shah joined Equitable in Syracuse.He holds a bachelor of science degree in physics and mathematics from Bombay University.
The Northeast Honor Associate Award is presented annually by Equitable's Old Guard, the association of Equitable's agency managers.
