Mayor Sharon Sewell also shared her empathy towards employees during remarks about the adjustments in the budget, but stressed her top concern is providing essential services to the citizens.
“Jobs and insurance are most important, then we’ll take care of the rest.
We will continue to maintain the quality of services in Bremen,†she said. “I want to comment on the great efforts made by all employees, knowing the struggles we’re dealing with regarding the financial situation.â€
Other budget estimates that met the council’s approval include the $2.3 million water/sewer budget and the $50,000 allotment for tourism efforts, which is funded by hotel and motel tax revenue.
With consumer spending on the decline, Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenue was conservatively estimated at $722,000 for capital improvement projects.
In other business, Sewell received a unanimous vote to serve as the city’s representative for the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, formerly known as the Coosa Valley Regional Development Center, which assists local governments with various economic development programs.
