Shane Sewell, the 2008 Young Man of the Year, was called "one of the most outstanding young men" by one recommender.
Others called him a "man of integrity and credibility in all things," someone who "brings to the table an enthusiastic spirit" and loves to serve, putting his "heart, mind, body and soul into a task."
"He is an active leader in our community," one letter said.
"A loyal and faithful servant."
A 2000 graduate of Tennessee Technological University, Sewell is currently the vice president of Commercial Lending at Athens Federal Bank.
He serves as Optimist Club president, a member of the Athens Council Advisory Board, and works with Junior Achievement, the Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity and Morning Star Ministries.
He is a past member of the McMinn Living Heritage Museum Board of Directors, and is a graduate of both McMinn Tomorrow and Leadership McMinn.
Sewell and his wife, Amy, are active members of the Athens Church of Christ.
Sewell said he serves his community now to continue to good works of those who served before him.
"We truly live in a great community," said Sewell.
