Chris Severson, Iowa Crew Manager

Chris joined the MCC as a crew leader with the Young Adult Program in January of 2007. She is currently the Assistant District Manager of the Conservation Corps Iowa in the Southern District. Chris has a B.S. in Human Development from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a M.A. in Recreation Administration from the University of Nebraska Omaha. She also has experience working for the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, Copper Mountain Ski Resort and Yellowstone Co-op Recreation. Some of Chris' favorite work projects are prescribed burning, wildlife surveys and trail building.

Chris Severson (pictured), a former MCC crew leader, is the new Iowa crew manager. Chris relocated to Ames from Rochester, an easy transition. "My parents grew up (in Iowa) and a lot of my family lives here, so I feel pretty much at home."

Severson holds a master's degree in recreation administration from the University of Nebraska and was a Vermont Youth Corps crew leader. Her experience prepared Severson for starting a new conservation corps program. "Right now, I am flooded with meetings and I'm having a lot of conversations with county conservation boards. In Iowa, natural resources are dealt with mostly on a local level," Severson says.
