Coach Lisa Seifert said her team needed to reach the WAC tournament finals to be included in the NCAAs.SMU, the No. 2 seed, won its first-round match but lost in the semifinals to sixth-seeded San Jose State.
Seifert said that loss pushed her team onto the bubble.
"It's hard to know what the committee was thinking," Seifert said."A lot of people were talking about early losses to Wake Forest and Kentucky hurting us.The San Jose thing didn't help.I still believe if we won that match, we would have been in."
Seifert thought a Sept. 20 victory over Maryland (26-7) would have helped the Mustangs' strength of schedule.

"The committee had a tough job to do," said Seifert, who was named WAC Coach of the Year this season.
