Seifert listed a variety of issues she sees as important during a Monday afternoon campaign kickoff and press conference in front of the Fairfield-Cordelia library.Among them are proposed county General Plan revisions she said move away from the county policy of having most development occur within cities.

'I do not believe the Board of Supervisors should be in the development business,' Seifert said.

Another concern is the board's recent decision to spend state tobacco settlement money on buildings instead of health programs, she said.

If elected, Seifert said she would vote against the proposed Rockville Trails Estates development near Green Valley unless it conforms to the General Plan. She added that Board of Supervisors meetings should be held at times and places convenient for citizens.

The 2nd District in central Solano County covers only the Cordelia and Green Valley areas. Most of the district and its voters are concentrated in the Benicia and Vallejo areas in the south county.

Seifert said she has spent a lot of time meeting people in Benicia and Vallejo and would be present in those communities as a supervisor.

    ...
Vallejo, CA—Linda Seifert, a public advocate from Fairfield, will officially announce her candidacy for the Solano County Board of Supervisors District 2 seat at 11:30 am today, in front of the public library in Downtown Vallejo (550 Santa Clara Street).Seifert will challenge the re-election of three term incumbent John Silva in the June 3rd election.
    ...
Seifert serves as the president of her neighborhood association, on the board of the Solano County Library Foundation, and as a Board Member for Child Haven, an organization which serves the needs of battered and neglected children. She says her campaign will be about refocusing the priorities of County government, so that it is once again in line with the interests of the community.

"I come to the race for County Supervisor as a public advocate, not a career politician backed special interests," Seifert says."My interest is in restoring integrity and accountability to our county government and in improving the lives of the citizens that live here."

The District 2 seat on the County Board of Supervisors covers the cities of Benicia and Vallejo, and parts of Fairfield.Already, Seifert has secured endorsements for her campaign from a wide array of elected officials and community leaders from these cities.

Vallejo City Councilmember Joanne Schivley, an early endorser of Seifert's campaign, says "I am supporting Linda for Supervisor because she will work closely with Vallejo, and give us more local control over growth in the part of Vallejo that is in District 2."
    ...
"However, after talking to Linda Seifert, I determined that she can address all of my concerns for the future of Solano County quite well.Linda will be a strong advocate for reducing urban sprawl, expanding and preserving our parks and open space, and dealing with air quality concerns that are affecting the health of our children and elderly.
    ...
I know Linda Seifert will work tirelessly to strengthen Vallejo's economy, and that's why she has my vote for Supervisor."

Seifert says that the early support she has seen from elected officials and local leaders throughout the District is a good indicator for the potential of her campaign.

"I think our communities are ready for change, ready for County government to start working on our side again," says Seifert.

The voters of Solano County will make that decision on Tuesday, June 3rd.
