"The purpose of that is to ensure all students' names are heard because that's obviously the importance of this," said Keith Seifert, director of secondary education with the Muscogee County School District."You don't want the individual calling the names to have to compete with those in attendance."
Family and friends will be allowed to applaud at the end of each row, but Seifert said the attendees should not holler and scream.Balloons, signs and noisemakers also will not be allowed.
"We want it dignified, and the only way to do that is to control the amount of noise that goes on," Seifert said.
Without applause after every student, Seifert said the graduations can also stay on schedule, which is crucial because the Civic Center will hold three graduations on Friday and five on Saturday.
Those who fail to follow the rules will be escorted from the building.
Seifert said rules have been in effect for at least 10 years, and the district has not had any major problems in recent years.
