Deephaven Elementary teacher Daryl Seifert is one of the 12 finalists for Teacher of the Year.Seifert is a reading specialist at Deephaven Elementary.
In all there were 134 applicants for the Teacher of the Year award, which is sponsored by Education Minnesota.The 12 finalists will be interviewed May 3 by the selection panel, which consists of 22 leaders in business, government and nonprofit organizations.
The Teacher of the Year will be announced at a banquet ceremony Sunday, May 4, at the Northland Inn in Brooklyn Park and will be presented with the award by 2001 Teacher of the Year Barb Stoflet of Minnetonka who teaches in the Hopkins School District.
The other 11 finalists include two teachers from Minneapolis and teachers from Cambridge-Isanti, from Duluth, from Forest Lake, from Hastings, from Herman-Norcross, from North St. Paul, from Owatonna, from Stillwater and from Triton.
