Elliott SeifElliott Seif is an educational consultant who served for 15 years as the director of curriculum and instruction services for the Bucks County Intermediate Unit, an educational service agency in Bucks County, Penn.He was also a social studies teacher and professor of education at Temple University and the director of the Pennsylvania Future Problem Solving Program from 1980 to 1999.

Seif is the author of several books and handbooks, including a textbook on the teaching of elementary social studies.He has published numerous articles on educational issues including teaching for understanding, social studies education, standards-based curriculum and instruction practices, project-centered instruction, curriculum development issues, leadership and supervision, futures education, the teaching of thinking, and interdisciplinary teaching and learning.He was the coordinator of the Bucks County Curriculum Renewal Project, which has received national attention through his authorship of a case study on curriculum renewal (ASCD's Curriculum Handbook) and a series of subject-area curriculum renewal handbooks published by Research for Better Schools.He recently published articles entitled "Reviving Social Studies" and "You Can Teach for Meaning" (with Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins) in Educational Leadership, the journal of ASCD.

Seif has been a member of ASCD's Understanding by Design Cadre since its inception and has conducted hundreds of Understanding by Design training sessions in schools and school districts throughout the United States and in Singapore, cotaught ASCD Professional Development Institutes with Jay McTighe, and led training sessions at ASCD Understanding by Design national conferences for the last four years.

Elliott Seif, PhD. is currently the Director of Curriculum and Instruction Services for the Bucks County Intermediate Unit.He received his master's degree and Certificate of Advanced Study from Harvard University, and his doctorate from Washington University, St. Louis in Curriculum Research and Development.He was formerly a social studies teacher and a Professor of Education at Temple University.He has conducted hundreds of local and national workshops, and published numerous articles, handbooks and books on such topics as standards based programs, curriculum development and renewal, school leadership, futures education, the teaching of thinking, interdisciplinary teaching and learning and social studies instruction.Dr. Seif is the Director of the Bucks County Renewal Project, which has received national attention.The Bucks County Intermediate Unit's "Case Study" on Curriculum Renewal and Standards Based Education, authored by Dr. Seif, was recently published in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Curriculum Handbook.Dr. Seif is also part of a cadre of developers and trainers for the nationally developed program "Understanding By Design."For the last twenty years, Dr. Seif has been the Director of the Pennsylvania Future Problem Solving Program, part of a national program that involves over 200,000 students every year in learning about futures issues and creative problem solving strategies.
