Impressed by the students' interest, Crittenden Principal Angela Seiders proposed that Spencer teach forensics full time.
"I wanted something different that would catch students' curiosity but at the same time get them excited about learning," Seiders said.
This year, Crittenden, a science, math and technology magnet school, is also introducing a Web master and robotics class, along with animal and forensic sciences."That's kind of a hot thing," Seiders said.
Forensics classes are popping up around the nation, according to a December story in The New York Times, because of the subject's popularity and the growing amount of curriculum material provided by Court TV and other Web sites.

"She really has taken the ball and run with it," Seiders said.
The elective class, forensic science, will be taught first semester to four classes of 25 students.
