The annual retreat also featured special guest speaker Dan Searls, WGM missionary to Hungary, who delivered two challenging messages to the group. He began by challenging those who have been saved from the slavery of sin but may still be wandering in the wilderness and in need of commitment to a marriage relationship with God, abiding in His promised land.Just as many of the Israelites looked across the Jordan and saw giants in the land, many people today look with fear at the price of fully surrendering. Many also believe that once that commitment is made, their lives will be struggle-free.Dan warned that just as the children of Israel faced Jerichos in their promised land, today's Christians are going to face similar enemies that will attempt to invade the places in their hearts that belong to the Lord.
Dan's second message on Saturday morning was a challenge to the students to consider their lives as seeds in need of planting so they might produce fruit. The planting process might be dirty, uncomfortable, and downright scary, but the choice to "remain on the shelf" denies the Lord the ability to reproduce their lives into more souls won for His kingdom.
In between times of corporate worship and sessions with Dan, students enjoyed fellowship with each other and members of WGM's staff, including Volunteer In Action Coordinator Meg Gettinger, Task Force Coordinator Shushan Richardson, Mission Representative Adam Pierce, IWU SI Coordinator Mindy Pierce, and missionaries Randy and Peggy West (Special Assignment) and Chrissy Greenwell (Mexico).
