Lisa Schweitzer

Lisa Schweitzer is the University of California's Student of the Year for 2003-2004.Lisa Schweitzer grew up in rural Iowa.She attended the University of Iowa for both her baccalaureate and master's degrees, earning credentials in social work, economics, and urban planning.

Her professional experience includes planning and program evaluation for the Iowa and Minnesota Departments of Transportation, and more recently for Caltrans.She is currently completing a PhD in Urban Planning at UCLA, where she studies the intersections between environmental and transportation planning, with a special focus on how planning and policy decisions affect impoverished and minority groups.Coupled with these are interests in appropriate community technologies and open source software.She would like to finish her dissertation someday so that she doesn't have to work on it anymore.
