Steven Schwartz is the Finance Director at Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (BISC) and BISC Foundation.
As the organizations' lead fundraiser, Steve manages cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts with individual, foundation, and organizational investors.
He works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to keep the finance trains running on time and, in addition, serves as BISC's liaison to selected national labor partners and political organizations.
Internally, Steve plays a critical role in budget drafting, program development, maintaining organizational and programmatic success metrics, and Board outreach.
Immediately previous to joining BISC and BISC, Steve worked on fundraising and political affairs consulting for BISC, League of Rural Voters, Campaign for America's Future, Young Democrats of America, and 2020 Democrats.
He helped manage broad political networks that included national and international labor unions, media, policy, and polling firms in addition to vendors and Congressional offices.
Steve has led an array of grassroots and grasstops fundraising, event planning, community organizing, and political affairs management efforts, working with a wide variety of national progressive groups and organizations.
He has trained community activists in successful campaign fundraising based on his ballot initiative campaign work.
Steve is passionate about winning campaigns, but equally committed to helping organizations and activists build long-term capacity through ballot measure campaigns.
Steve volunteers with the National Gay and Lesbian Taskforce, and occasionally can be convinced into canvassing for local races and candidates.
He is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and holds a B.A. from Creighton University in both Philosophy and Theology.
These days, you can find him conquering the great indoors by enjoying friends, quirky local bars, and crossword puzzles.
On Tuesday evenings he is captaining and batting fifth for his Washington, DC kickball team.
