    UniTrends Software Corporation was founded by Dr. Steve Schwartz, the author of CTAR.CTAR was developed in 1986; the DOS version was developed in 1987.Schwartz, a graduate of Duke University, went on to write other UNIX utilities, including System Crash Airbag.These other utilities were spun off into a sister company, Cactus International, of which Schwartz is now the CEO.

    MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA - March 9, 2004 - Unitrends Software Corp., a leader in the development of enterprise-wide, cross-platform data protection products and services, announced today that its founder and chief technology officer, Dr. Steve Schwartz, will be a featured speaker at the 2004 Network Storage Conference, a major industry event dedicated to analyzing new architectural processes in network storage and storage management.The conference began yesterday and concludes today.

    During his presentation today, Schwartz will discuss the emergence of disk-to-disk storage as the preferred backup method for companies of all sizes."Companies are rapidly realizing that disk-to-disk data protection offers them reliability and high performance and, now, cost-advantages over every other method of data protection including tape," he said.

    Schwartz also will give attendees a preview of Unitrends technology, now in its final stages of development.The technology, code-named RX9, will offer users far greater storage capacity and will slash the time required for data backup and restores.Initial tests run at the Unitrends Development Labs show restore times on large test files and folders cut in several cases from more than an hour to less than a minute.

    Schwartz said the new technology is soon to be introduced and will be available in Unitrends' Data Protection Units (DPUs).
