Marty Schwartz - What are the benefits of being a solitary trader?

Marty Schwartz works from his home office and his successes is relatively unknown to the general public.Nevertheless, his successes at the US Trading Championships organized by a Stanford University Professor have reflected his outstanding Trading skills despite being a lone ranger. In fact, within 9 of the 10 championships that he has participated, he had greatly outperformed every one else in the competition.Indeed, his total profits were greater than the profits made by all the participants , combined! As a champion trader, his average returns in all these 9 championships amounted to 210 percent.

Now, what would be the reasons behind Marty working out of his home? For one thing, working alone means that Marty does not have to be responsible for the livelihood of employees in the event that he decides to quit.He cites an instance when he was asked on the number of employees he had, and proudly gave his reply of "None." Conversely, the fund manager he was talking to had 70 employees working for him.In Marty's opinion, this poses to be a headache on its own as this person would have to manage his employees on top of his trading business.

Nevertheless, Marty had not always been working solo. There had been a time where he was working out of an office, where he had a bunch of friends. However, as many left later on, there was no longer a motivation to work out of an office.Today, he corresponds and calls several of his acquaintances on a daily basis, bent on discussions and simultaneously swapping methodologies. This has turned out to work well for Marty.

Finally, Marty loves the freedom that the trading profession has provided him.In fact, he can go on vacation anytime and practically live in any city he wants. His lifestyle is fulfilled and he has time for his family.
