Fr. John Schneider said Pope Benedict will 'lift our spirituality'
    ...
Father John Schneider, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bonne Terre and St. Anne's in French Village, took part in the Pope's first public Mass of his U.S. pilgrimage.

"It was a wonderful experience," Schneider said in a telephone interview shortly after the Mass ended.
    ...
While the Pope talked of America as a land of opportunity and hope, Schneider said it's not what he said as much as his very presence that will likely inspire American Catholics.

"It's amazing how our faith is lifted by our leader," he said."I don't think he is here to beat us over the head with dogma, but to lift our spirituality."

The Pope talked of how the Church in America is at a crossroads, dependent upon a renewal of penance and holiness.Schneider said his message is that if people have hope in Jesus Christ, they will live differently and live to make a difference in society.

Fr. Schneider participated in events surrounding Pope John Paul's visit to St. Louis in 1999.
