Schneider, the longest serving hospital chief executive in Connecticut, joined Day Kimball as Assistant Administrator in 1969 and was named President of the 106-bed Putnam, CT. hospital in 1972.He assumed the additional duties of Chief Executive Officer of HNNE in 1982.HNNE is a non-profit, integrated health care system comprised of Day Kimball Hospital, Health Network HomeCare, Hospice of Northeastern Connecticut, Northeast Homemakers and Quinebaug Systems.When founded in 1982, Health Network was the first integrated health care system in Connecticut to include inpatient, home health, hospice, homemaker, and respiratory home care services all within one network.
During Schneider's tenure, Day Kimball Hospital and its Medical Staff grew enormously.In addition to the forming of HNNE, Schneider's numerous accomplishments included the building of two outpatient centers in Danielson and Plainfield, CT.; a doubling in the number of physicians on staff at the Hospital; the development of ambulatory and one-day surgery services; an affiliation with the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts for advanced, tertiary care services and the building of both a new, outpatient Pediatric Center in Putnam as well as the Hale Medical Pavilion, which houses the Hospital's operating rooms and birthing center.

At the announcement, Schneider thanked those he had worked with over the years: "The success Day Kimball and HNNE has enjoyed has not been the result of one person's efforts but rather a whole host of individuals," said Schneider." One of the things that makes Day Kimball Hospital and all the agencies in Health Network so special is the people who work here.I've been very fortunate in my career to be associated with some very talented individuals.I'd like to sincerely say 'thank you' to the Board of Directors for their support over the last 30 years, the management team, Day Kimball's medical staff and volunteers and finally all of Health Network's staff.I am very confident that the Hospital and Health Network will continue to grow and provide the highest quality care possible to the community."
In announcing Schneider's retirement date, Board Chairperson Adiletta also announced Dr. Ann Errichetti as successor: "Two years ago, when Chuck made clear his intentions to step down as CEO, the Board of Directors knew it had it's work cut out for it to find a suitable replacement," said Adiletta.
