Rev. Schmoll is semi-retired, having taught school for several years. In mid-life, she returned to school to study for the ministry. She said she felt a calling to the ministry when she was 10 years old, but it wasn,t until much later that she was able to fulfill her calling and enter the American Baptist Seminary of the West. After three years of full-time study, she earned her Master,s of Divinity.

She said, ,The ministry chose me.

,Have a lot of social outlets, be interested in others, do something for others and take very seriously your role as a grandparent if you are blessed with grandchildren,, Rev. Schmoll suggests.

She quoted Martin Luther who said, ,An ounce of mother is worth a pound of priest., She believes ,An ounce of grandmother is (also) worth a pound of priest.,

She enjoys her grandchildren who live here and wants to be a strong spiritual influence in their lives. She takes the role of long-distance grandmother just as seriously and is in frequent contact with her out of town grandchildren. She considers her role as grandmother her most important gift to her family and ultimately to society as a whole.

Ending our conversation, Rev. Schmoll said her ministry gives her a satisfaction that can,t be explained. She loves teaching and preaching the Bible and considers her ability to bring the presence and comfort of God to others a gift that has to be shared. She was a Bible student of Miss A. Wetherell Johnson who founded Bible Study Fellowship, and she trained under her in Walnut Creek, Calif.

She was a Teaching Leader of the Fellowship for five years. She is an amazing woman and one that Northwest Bakersfield can be proud to call one of theirs! Part of her heart is still in North Carolina, but she has lovingly embraced Northwest Bakersfield as ,home.,
