The county's biggest victim may be the construction industry, said Tehama County Job Training Center CEO Kathy Schmitz. While construction recruiters are typically active in the summer, those jobs are down 20 percent from last year, something Schmitz attributed in part to the slowing housing market.

The number of visitors to the job center has also increased from last year's 70 people visiting the center a day during August to 100 a day for the first half of August, she said.

The center maintains a job posting board and can help direct people to vocational training or further education and financial aid programs to help them something that Schmitz called a "challenge for this area."

The center also offers interview and resume coaching.

"People have to be more aggressive in this market," she said.

Tehama County Job Training Center CEO Kathy Schmitz said the program, aside from keeping everyone in the Chamber updated, will help people find new roles in Red Bluff.

"It's about training community leaders in Red Bluff," Schmitz said."We (will) educate people about the issues and let them know how they can get involved further."

The presentations will cover the status of Lake Red Bluff but were not organized specifically for that, she said.Rather, "that just happened to be a hot topic."

A Community Leadership Program committee has also been organized but at this point their job will mainly be to pick topics and speakers who can better inform the community, she said.

Sitting on the committee are Chamber President-elect Kirsten Behrens, who will also serve as the program's chair; Schmitz; Tehama County Department of Education
