   In looking at the past, present and future of the well-established facility, Owner/Director Karen Schmitz said that Agape's role has changed over the last few years with the events of Oklahoma City in 1995 and Sept. 11, 2001. "Perhaps 15 years ago I dreamed that the children we taught would be future rocket scientists," Schmitz said. "There doesn't seem to be much call for rocket scientists today. Now I feel that we must prepare the children to be peacemakers. "We must help them find a way to co-exist in this world, respecting all other peoples, while all the time learning not to be become victims themselves. What an awesome task! The challenges they face today did not even exist 15 years ago." Schmitz attributes the success of Agape to the longevity and qualifications of the staff. She says their stability has a positive effect on the children in their care. Schmitz holds Master's degrees in Education and Early Childhood Education. She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Southern Early Childhood Association, the Early Childhood Association of Oklahoma and Friends of Day Care in Tulsa. She has more than 35 years of teaching and administration experience. Agape is open to children ages 12 months through 10 years. Age-appropriate activities and preschool classes are offered. A special summer program for ages four and up includes activities such as skating, swimming, bowling and field trips. During the summer an ice cream truck also makes weekly stops at the center.
