Dr. Sonia Schmitt has also worked in systems engineering and Internet technology programs for Cable & Wireless, SAIC, and two Silicon Valley start-ups.Sonia has been on the faculty at Georgetown and George Mason Universities.She also taught at the George Washington University in the Engineering Management executive program.Dr. Schmitt has developed courses on e-Commerce, Business Databases, Networking, MIS, and Technology Strategy and Policy.Dr. Schmitt's research has focused on technology policies of various regions and countries such as China, Vietnam, Silicon Valley, and the Dulles Corridor.She studied ICT indicators and evaluation criteria that define country competitiveness.
Dr. Schmitt received a Doctorate in the Marketing of Technology, an MS in Systems Engineering, and a BS in Mathematics.She carries Network +, and TCP/IP certifications.She is a member of the Association for Information Systems, the Academy of Management, and the American Planning Association.
Dr. Schmitt was invited to speak on MSNBC and National Public Radio (NPR) about her work on the digital divide.She has been a panel speaker at ASEM, CTCNet, and SWE conferences and she has also guest lectured at Washington-area SWE, AAUW, and IEEE meetings as well as various universities.Dr. Schmitt, has appeared as an Expert Witness in Maryland.
