Suzanne M. Schmidt received her Bachelor of Music Degree from The University of Michigan with a double major in performance and music education and a double minor in music history and theory.In addition, she received her Kodály Certification from Westminster Choir College of Rider University and a music technology certification from Villanova University.Mrs. Schmidt is currently completing her Master of Music Education Degree from Westminster Choir College of Rider University.She is also an Adjunct Instructor at Rider University.
Mrs. Schmidt taught in both public and Christian schools in Michigan and New Jersey.After taking several years "off" to be a full-time mom, Mrs. Schmidt resumed her teaching career when she came to Pennsbury High School in 1991.While at Pennsbury, Mrs. Schmidt was the orchestra director, assisted in the choral department, served as the choral accompanist, and directed the instrumental music for several shows.Mrs. Schmidt also developed Pennsbury's innovative and comprehensive music theory program.With the expansion of the music theory program in 1996 and the popularity of music theory courses, Mrs. Schmidt now teaches music theory exclusively.
Mrs. Schmidt has been the recipient of several awards.For the past three years, she has served as a Faculty Consultant/Reader for the Advanced Placement Music Theory Exam.Of the sixty plus AP Readers, less than 10 are from public high schools.In addition, Mrs. Schmidt has been nominated to Who's Who Among America's High School Teachers consistently since 1998.She was also placed on the USA TODAY All-USA Teacher Team in 2002.
Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt are the parents of two Pennsbury graduates: daughter, Katie, was recently married and lives with her new husband in Maryland; son, Tim, has his pilot's license and is in the United States Air Force ROTC.He is studying mechanical engineering with an aerospace concentration.
