   SAN MARCOS, Calif., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Natural Alternatives International ("NAI"), Inc. (Nasdaq: NAII), announced today that one of its independent directors, J. Scott Schmidt died unexpectedly of a heart attack.
   
   Mr. Schmidt, a distinguished newspaper executive, joined the NAII board in 1999 and was Chairman of the Human Resources Committee and a member of the Audit Committee.
