Meet the DGE 2007-8 Joanne Schilling
DGE Joanne ShillingJoanne Schilling was born at Kimba in South Australia and grew up on a wheat and woolgrowing property.She attended boarding school in Adelaide to complete her schooling, and began her working life in the editorial library of The Advertiser newspaper.During that time Joanne was a team leader with a group of young volunteers who worked for four weeks in Papua New Guinea.Joanne later returned to PNG with her family for five years in the 1980s, thus gaining first hand an appreciation of the issues facing emerging economies.
Joanne moved to the Northern Territory in 1990 and has worked in financial and corporate service areas of the NT public sector since then.Joanne is currently the Director of Non-Government Schools Policy for the Department of Employment, Education and Training.In 2000 she won the "Corporate and Government" category of the Telstra Northern Territory Business Women's Awards.Joanne has qualifications in accounting, Business, Economics, and Public Policy and Management.
A member of the Rotary Club of Darwin South, Joanne has served in a numerous roles, and was Club President in 2003-04.

Joanne and partner Percy Peel have also hosted several Exchange students.

Joanne was District Treasurer from 2003 - 2006, and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow by the District in 2005.
Joanne has four sons, and her youngest son Bevan was a Youth Exchange Student to Norway in 2000.
