Alan Schantz, minister of music at the church for the past three years, says some 25 members will make up the cast for the Nativity.
...
Schantz, who has been a minister of music for 25 years and was at Coulter Road Baptist Church in Amarillo prior to coming to Plainview, says he has never directed an outdoor program.
"We did a similar program in Mustang, Okla. but that was indoors," he related."We have no contingency for the weather; we just hope it,s good," he said with a chuckle.
Volunteers have been building sets and about 30,000 white lights will be incorporated into the viewing area.
Additioinally, some 2,000 candy canes will be passed out."We needed about 2,000 and I think we have had about 3,000 contributed by church members, who also provided the lights," said Schantz.
Hoping for perhaps 400-500 people to attend each night, Schantz said the purpose of having the outdoor program is its potential to reach the general community as well as the unchurched.
"Some people will come this program who would not come inside our church," he noted.

This is our church,s Christmas gift to the people of Plainview and the area," said Schantz.
