So many small businesses have had to spend savings to keep their heads above water, they don,t have much more time to wait, said Kevin Savoie of the LSU AgCenter.
,They can,t wait on assistance,, Savoie said. ,They,re pretty well tapped out.,
Because so many have lost their assets, they don,t qualify for bank loans , and many are being turned down for loans from the Small Business Administration, Savoie said.
At Hackberry Seafood, owner David Deere got things up and running for shrimp season on a shoestring. But he,s been turned down for a $25,000 SBA loan and money,s tight, especially after the extensive repairs required to re-open, Deere said.
