"Our queen did everything from bake sales, to a hunk auction, to producing her own CD.We take this homecoming competition very seriously," Santos said.

According to Santos from AID Atlanta, while there can only be one official winner in the homecoming competition, all of the AIDS organizations who participate are the real winners, particularly this year.
"With the holidays people are in a giving mood, but with the bad economy … many people have been hit harder than they expected in their pocketbook this year," he said."That means donations are down for everyone this year.And every event, even a small fund-raiser, helps."
And for pageant participants, organizers said there is a real reward for spending the month of November orchestrating fund-raisers.
"I think when people see the good work these organizations are doing, it's hard not to participate," Marks said.
